A vintage Hardy Hardex No. one Mk 2 threadline fishing reel by Hardy of Alnwick, England. The reel is in good vintage condition, with a Chrome flier, a half bale arm, a metal spool and brass drag. Iv'e never seen a order spool like this one on a Hardex - perhaps denoting it as an early model. The side plate has the coat of arms of King George V with the Prince of Wales feathers and Hardy's details with the model number and mark number of the reel, which is No. I MK II. The reel finish is a metalic grey colour. This model is a pre war one. Hardy introduced the first 'Hardex' reel for the 1937 fishing season and was in production until 1959. It was designed and priced to compete in the lower end of the market place and compared most favourably beside the reels offered by Hardy's competitors. The Hardex was a cheaper solution to the more expensive Hardy Altex. Everything working as it should. Nice smooth operation and the bale arm returns nicely. The reel has the Initials T.A. of the man who constructed the reel, Thomas Appleby, who worked for Hardys between 1920 - 1947
This reel is in original condition. Thank you for looking.
