Biography: These prints are from the book Reports of Explorations and Surveys to Ascertain the Most Practical and Economical Route for a Railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean. (USPRR) There were 12 volumes, and this illustration is from Volume VI, which dealt with the survey from the Mississipi River to the Pacific Ocean, and was published by the War Department, Washington D.C. in 1856. These railroad surveys were the first attempt at a comprehensive, systematic, geographical exploration of the western regions, and contain some of the earliest images of the west.
Condition hese original antique prints are in very good condition for their age. The slight tears at the bottom of the page are from where they were taken out of the book and can easily be cropped for framing. There is some water damp staining at the bottom left corner of the page, but it doesn't interfere with the engraved image portion. Please view the scan image carefully all defects are visible
