This is one of my favourite pieces. A coyote skull, with gold paint made from mica powder, red agate, some python sheds, and order a brooch I found in a vintage shop.
When I find a bone, I like to envision the life that it was once part of. The beauty that remains long after the creature has died is something that has always been apparent to me. I love the organic lines of bone, the way it dips and curves. There is a perfect imperfection in bone, in its dimples and cracks. To me, it speaks of life as much as it speaks of death.
In this piece, I am imagining a coyote, laying in the sun on a late June afternoon. He is relaxed, and content. Butterflies flutter by on a warm breeze, and for a moment, one alights on his head. It is a beautiful, ephemeral moment, captured eternally in bone.
