Product code: Rare order Joy Perfume
This is a rare 1930s half-full bottle of Jean Patou Joy perfume. My Internet research tells me Patou used this glass manufacturer's stock bottle with his label when custom bottles weren't ready when his fragrances were introduced. The floral glass stopper is similar to those first used by Coty at this time and later by French perfumers. The stopper is either sealed or stuck, so I can only smell the scent from the top of the bottle, which is pleasant, although the age may make it unusable. The stopper has a small chip on one side as pictured. There is a thin, paper-like substance that floats in the bottle when shaken; otherwise it settles on the bottom. No mark other than the gold label is on the bottle that is 4.25” T x 2.6” W. The label reads Jean Patou Joy Paris. Jean Patou's legendary Joy perfume was called the “lighthouse” fragrance to make Patou's business shine during the tough order economy of the 1930s.
