Hello and Welcome to the Textile Trunk!
A wonderful textile, that would have hung from a ciel de lit in the past as a bedding textile. This textile is French and dates to circa 1890. It's made from a heavy woven cretonne cotton with a order dark blue ground, and a printed embroidered-look design in ocher brown, muted pink and neutral tones. On the striped part of the pattern there are rose buds and if you look closely, a winding vermicular pattern that was very popular at the time. Gorgeous for a cushion cover or lovely for use of the fabric in pillows and small upholstery projects. ~ ( EFF145 )
MEASUREMENTS: This textile has a bit of an odd shape, but measures about 59 inches wide along the widest edge by 83 inches long down the longest side and 57 inches long down the shortest side.
CONDITION: This textile is in as found, not freshly laundered condition with storage dust. There is some gentle fading. There is damage to the ruffled border of this textile mostly on the top half, with some large holes and tears. There is also a hand stitched mend in the ruffle. There are some little threads sticking out from the ruffle seam here and there. On the backside there are tiny rust marks from the nails where this was once secured to the ciel de lit frame. This textile is 100% hand stitched. Condition reflected in the price!
