Charming bundle of leather, perfect for your decorating pleasure!
Three volumes of Essays of Montaigne, translated by Charles Cotton and edited by William Carew Hazlitt. London: Reeves and Turner, 1877.
All in three-quarter red order leather, with gold decorated spines, hand-sewn endbands, top edges gilt, and red marbled boards and endsheets.
All three are in quite shabby antiquarian condition, with signs of wear, age, and use. Leather is dry at joints, and front marbled board of Volume I is oddly faded. See photos.
5 1/4" wide and 9" tall, when standing together.
