A vintage Bedouin pendant made with a Maria Theresa Thaler coin. The old coin dated 1780 has a red glass bead at its center and sets of two spherical dangles hanging from chains. The bail is a cylinder with a small opening. It would make a great central piece for a fantastic necklace.
All of the elements of the pendant including the chains and dangles are made of silver alloy.
The Maria Theresa Thaler silver coin was widely used for international trade for around 200 years. In the Arabian Peninsula, as in other places around the globe, it was a silver standard that was traded and melted down to create jewelry and was itself used as a base for adornments such as in this case.
Length of pendant from bail to bottom of dangles: 12 cm (4 3/4"). The diameter of the coin is 3.8 cm order (1 5/8"). Weight is 84.1 g
