This a what I believe to be a rare hand forged farmer's hay loft hook. Heavy iron that weighs more than 6 pounds has original black paint. This was made by a blacksmith in around 1850. Designed so the pike is driven into a barn timber allowing a strong hook for a block and tackle to help bring up the hay bales.
Very rare....first one I've seen!!
