Old Snifter Bottle Opener 1930s | Demley Old Snifter order Corkscrew | Bar Cart Accessory | Collectible Bottle Opener | Prohibition Memorabilia
This is a vintage 1930s prohibition era bronze Demley Old Snifter corkscrew and.
This is a vintage 1930s prohibition era bronze Demley Old Snifter corkscrew and bottle opener which was inspired by 'Mr. Dry'. This figural opener resembles Andrew John Volstead with a congressional ribbon on his left lapel, Andrew John Volstead (shown in the last photo) was an American member of the United States House of Representatives from Minnesota, 1903–1923, and a member of the Republican Party, he is best remembered as the author of the Volstead Act which is officially the National Prohibition Act of 1919. Made of bronze, the bottle opener is created by the figure's nose and collar. The metal corkscrew is hidden in the figure's coat tails and folds up to open corked bottles, it easily folds down to hide when not in use. His hat is removable, leaving a small opening that possibly held toothpicks or matches. A congressional ribbon decorates his lapel. The base of this opener was used to crush ice. Manufactured by Heller of Chicago. This design is featured on page 235 of The Ultimate Corkscrew Book by Donald Bull. Very well crafted, adding to the rarity is the bronze casting (most are silver tone or nickel plated), 100% genuine, NOT a reproduction.
In excellent vintage condition with a beautiful aged patina, there are no cracks, dings or repairs. The cork screw opener is securely attached, the hat has a snug fit. Please view all photos to appreciate the beauty, quality, and condition of the piece, my photos are part of the description.

A bit about vintage...a vintage item is at least 20 years old. Sometimes items can be found that order have been stored for years and have remained somewhat pristine; others have been gently used and may bear the signs of this but this patina of age can add to the item's charm. All items are described as accurately as I possibly can, any major flaws and defects will be noted in my photos which are provided to illustrate each item. Items may appear larger than they are, make sure you carefully review the dimensions listed in the product description.
