As shown Estate sale find Circa 1960s This large Couroc of Monterey.
As shown. Estate sale find. Circa 1960s. This large Couroc of Monterey, CA (see below) tray is a beautiful example of mid-century modern design. Blue boat blueprints, yellow navigational buoy, sailboats, ocean and gulls. Durable Phenolic resin. All hand inlaid. The tray is rectangular with an edge that is curved upward. Measures 18-1/4" x 12-5/8" when measured across to the edges. Has the remnant of the unreadable Couroc foil label on the back. In very good overall condition (light wear) for an item such as this, I do note an edge chip (see picture).
Founded in 1948 Couroc became famous for their durable phenolic resin barware, bowls, trays and plates. The Couroc company name derives from Cour after Gutherie Courvoisier the companies founder and rock for hard as a rock. Significantly, each piece's design is slightly different because the inlays are set by hand - no two are ever exactly alike. Hand inlaid by master craftsmen, shells, coins, Rhinestones, woods and metals are fused order into Couroc's famous satin black material which is impervious to alcohol, boiling water, and cigarette burns. Each vintage mid-century modern piece celebrates unmatched beauty and durability.
