Product code: Antique Ridgway Stoneware High Relief Cream Drabware Pan & order Bacchus Jug c.1830

A lovely, highly collectable antique Pan and Bacchus jug by William Ridgway & Co. The buff/cream coloured stoneware jug has masks of Bacchus moulded in relief and set against acanthus leaf scrolls and stylised pattern of honeysuckle or palm leaves in a radiating cluster.

The jug handle is made in the image of Pan the Greek God of Music and the main body shows scenes of Bacchus, the Greek God of Wine. The handle is moulded with a bust of Pan holding his pipes and crook.

There are fruiting grape vines below the rim of the spout. The jug has impressed number 6 mark on the base, and an impressed letter T but, there are no makers marks. The design is very nicely order moulded.

The jug stands 24 cm high and has a body diameter of approximately 15 cm. It weighs 1113 g unpacked and is in very good condition with no cracks. There are 2 small chips on the base rim and can be seen in the photo attached. This is a great example of pre-Victorian Drabware and is a sought-after piece. The detail on this jug is very impressive.
