Antique Mid-Victorian period circa 1860's Rare example of a well preserved (for age) Campaign/Travellers 'Light' Match Vesta Striker case fashioned in black enamel painted tin finished with black leather cladding to the exterior and a hinged gilded metal carry handle to the lid, the front section to the lid features a push plate locking clasp that when operated allows one to open the box to access the interior which reveals a hinged Shagreen mounted striking strip which can be lifted up to reveal a match storage bin of a convex shape.
Overall good condition for age, some cosmetic wear is present throughout as to be expected after 160 years or so, structurally sound and still very much useable it makes for a handsome antique match striker and a splendid collectible.
When closed shut the vesta box measures 5 cm x 5 cm x 3.7 cm in dimension, the lid to the box features the legend in worn gold foil "Light" finishing the box nicely.
