Robert Wallace was born in 1815 in Prospect, Connecticut. He opened his first shop in 1833 and only produced spoons! Wallace continued to grow and eventually purchased a formula to create the first German Silver in American history. By 1855 he entered a partnership with Samuel Simpson to begin producing German flatware. At this point the business was named "R. Wallace and Co" and by 1871 "Wallace Bros Silver Co" was founded by Wallaces sons. This company was eventually merged in 1879 with Wallaces own to create "Wallace and Sons Mfg. Co".
