NOTE: You are buying the gem and the setting. My eyes are not good enough, hands not steady enough any more to set.... but a simple matter for any jeweler... indeed most people can do it themselves. Price reflects fact that stone needs to be set.

Earth mined sapphire, approx. .53 cwt. Natural Earth Mined Sapphire. Minor inclusions. Why Settle for Imitations? Approx.5.9x4.1 mm. SEE " **IMPORTANT NOTES" below regarding our gems and our settings! Any questions, Please ask.

THIS IS A GENUINE EARTH MINED SAPPHIRE. I could see no evidence of heating. Unheated sapphires are rare. If requested, I will provide, for an additional $5, a signed and sealed appraisal by me for retail replacement of $250. A gemologist for decades, specializing in coloured stones, I am now retired. If you prefer, I can provide a written appraisal signed and sealed by a master valuer ( at time of this listing I am using Steven Knight GG, R.M.V., CJA-CAP) for approx. $40. You have to ask for and pay for prior to shipping as gem must be sent to his lab. Takes a few weeks.

The RETAIL REPLACEMENT figure is designed for bricks and mortar jewelers with high overheads. I used to supply jewelers, and bought gems in volume so I could sell to them at prices that allowed them to make a profit and still make a profit for myself. Many of my gems were purchased decades ago, and what I paid influences what I can sell it for.

"** IMPORTANT NOTES RE OUR GEMS AND SETTINGS":
1) All our gemstones are true gems, earth mined, not man made. EXPECT FLAWS! Minor inclusions in any gem are not, as some think, a bad thing. They help a gemologist determine the authenticity of a gem. Man made gems are perfect.... but as they are not real earth mined gems, and can be made in the millions, they do not increase in value. Supply and demand rules
2) Our settings are silver, and in most cases have a coating of Rhodium to prevent tarnishing, and give the appearance of white gold. Rhodium is actually more expensive than gold . In most cases, the smaller accent stones are clear topaz. Many of our stones deserve gold settings and diamond melee, but this would make them many many times more expensive. You can always do this yourself if you wish.... you are paying much less than the retail replacement value of the gem without the setting.
3) Stones were in most cases set by volunteers helping us raise money for animal charities. EXPECT FLAWS! Often they leave prongs a little too long, do not get the stone exactly level, etc. etc. BUT. We are not charging you for the setting! Most people enjoy them "as is" and the flaws do not bother them, but if they bother you, have them exchanged for professionally mounted settings in gold and diamond. At least this way you can see how they will look. Most people appreciate this. Sorry if order you do not. ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK!
4) All stones, including smaller ones are set by hand, not glued.

Even smaller pictures, while more accurately showing how the gem looks to the naked eye, still show the gem MUCH larger than it is of course.... if you are not sure how big this is , make certain you check on a measure marked in millimeters... the standard for measuring gems.)

NOTE: Supply and demand rules in true gem buying as in every other human investment.
Each earth mined gem is a unique work of art, unlike the lab produced stones that can be produced in unlimited quantities.
Even worse than the lab produced stones are the glass enhanced ones....almost worthless.
Some people will never understand why people buy an original work of art when they can buy a poster for next to nothing.
Earth mined gems are for those that do. Invest in quality.

Sapphire is the birth stone for those born in September. Corundum, with traces of iron, titanium, chromium, vanadium or magnesium responsible for the color. Sapphires are 9 on the moh's scale, right behind diamond ( moh's10)
Sapphire is said to bring peace and prosperity to those that own it.
Sapphires are not as expensive as the other corundum, Ruby. The most expensive sapphire to my knowledge sold for approx. $17,00,000.00 at auction.
