The Spectator Volumes 1,3-8 written by Joseph Addison, published by J & R Tonson, London. There is no publication date though these appear to be first edition which would make the publication date around 1747.
This collection is in fair condition. While the inside pages are in good condition and the binding tight, the covers are very worn and some have split from the spine. One board from a volume is missing entirely.
This seven volume matching order set have calf leather covers with gilt bindings, marbled end boards and engraved title vignettes.
There are some hand written notes in pencil on the inside cover.
This rare collection is worn yet still handsome and would add an authentic historical antique vibe to an library or cabinet. The pages are readable with general spotting and age toning.
Included in the collection is a handwritten note from when this set was gifted from a wife to her husband.
