On a car ride the other day, unfortunately, a butterfly flew into my windshield and I got quite sad. Then I looked to the left and saw a mosquito on my windshield as well and it got me thinking about how the way we value and perceive beauty affects how we value and perceive even insects. I thought it was really interesting how much more we value things just based off of their beauty. And what makes an insect beautiful? Why do I have no issue with flies flying into traps or windshields but once it's a butterfly or a lady bug it gets me sad? Do bugs benefit from pretty privilege in this world?... But then I got to where I was going and my mind wandered off to another topic.
