A very gestural and playful kick wheel thrown tea pot/sake server which was first thrown as a bowl then a top, spout and handle added later. I gave it a very gestural splash of Oribe glaze then high fired it in my gas reduction kiln. Great energy in your hand and a lot of fun to order look at as well!
All my pots are either made on a kick wheel or formed by hand with each piece being unique, both in surface and form and I trim both off the wheel as well as on using a variety of tools including loop tools as well as bamboo carving sticks. My pots contain subtle information of each process, whether there are scrape marks, finger prints, drips, edges or other intended information of the forming process. Finally, my work tends to be material driven in the sense that I attempt to allow the materials to have a dialogue with the result of that conversation forming the decorative expression of the work.
Most of my work is fired in a gas reduction kiln with the glazes and slips used being ones that I have formulated and mixed for the particular temperature/atmosphere that I fire at. Some work may be fired a second or even third time at lower temperatures to complete the work. After firing all my pots are prepped by hand to give a softer feel and make them more friendly to use. They are all food and dishwasher safe, but I recommend handling with care when using. Please refrain from microwaving those pieces with fired on gold or silver accents as the surface is composed of real metal and will flash in the microwave.
