I am very excited to showcase the results of all of the research, collection and processing of black walnuts, acorns and other natural dye plants for the purpose of natural dyeing/eco dyeing!
I have spent the summer finding black walnut trees in the neighbourhood and making note of them, so that I could collect the husks when they fell in the fall. I found several recipes for dyes using black walnuts husks. Once the husks had been collected, they were covered with water and left to sit overnight to draw out any environmental toxins. The pot was then emptied and filled again to start the process of extracting the natural dyes. The same goes for the acorns and all other dye stuffs (with the exception of certain dyes which will be noted in their postings...namely Alkanet which I ethically source from India)
This particular batch was produced over a woodstove while visiting my parents in Northern Ontario. The pot was left to simmer for several days to ensure a richness of colour and pull out the maximum amount of dye stuffs.
Naturally dyed items should be hand washed in cold water and laid flat to dry. Store away from direct sunlight.
I make accessories and items that I would wear and DO wear myself.
If you see something you like, but would prefer it in a different colour please convo me. I would be happy to make something custom for you or as a gift. In some cases, due to the use of vintage/antique materials or found object(s), natural dye stuffs used in creating my pieces it may not be an option. I would be happy to create something of similar style or totally unique based upon customer preference.
I enjoy making unique pieces and seeing others wearing the finished product. I live to create!
All of the materials I use to make the items sold here, wherever possible, have been ethically sourced from proprietors, individual makers, order and by those who have a vested interest in their communities ( whether their own or those in foreign countries), or collected/wild foraged by myself and my Mother.
