Wonderful lidded ceramic box, in sculpted rectangular form, with flowing biomorphic designs on the top, two beads at front, well fitted lid, compartments inside on base and lid, signed by artist Aleen Gottlob of North Carolina (1921-1995), 1960s.
Measures 4 3/4" wide, 4 1/4" deep and 3" high.
Glaze is a creamy straw colored beige, with small brown flecks, body is off white, slightly greyish stoneware.
Very well designed and constructed, the work of a fine potter.
From estate of mid century furniture, art and decor, a fabulous collection.
In good condition, no apparent chips or cracks, one of the "threads" at each corner seems to have a break, and appears to be before firing.
Very artful form, is designed to open and have four sections, possibly for serving small items such as nuts, candy, etc. Would be also useful for holding earrings, cufflinks, other small pieces of jewelry.
Please see all photos for details and email any questions. Note that in some of the photos, some of the darker flecks appear more orange, but they are brown, with a bit of rust on sides.
