Description

Goldfish Plant (Nematanthus gregarious) in this listing is different from another goldfish plant (Columnea gloriosa). Goldfish Plant (Nematanthus gregarious) is a perennial and native to the rainforests of Brazil. Plants are easy to care and drought resistant.

Fun points:

1. Beautiful, unique and very interesting flowers. The flowers of goldfish plant resemble goldfish, which is the origin of the plant's common name. Under proper care, the plant can bloom all year round.

2. Beautiful foliage. The leaves of the plant are thick, dark green but glossy and shiny. In combination with its ever-blooming flowers, the plant is excellent as a hanging or table plant.

Care tips

1. Soil. Goldfish plant likes rich and well-drained soil with good water retaining capacity.

2. Light. The plant can be grown both indoors and outdoors with bright indirect or filtered light. However, low amount of light will affect the plant blooming.

3. Temperature. Goldfish plant prefers hot weather and is frost tender. When grown indoors, the temperature should not be below 55ºF.

4. Water. Water your goldfish plant when the soil surface becomes dry to the touch but do not let the soil dry out. Never let the soil become soggy. Water the plant well in the growing season, and keep the soil fairly dry in winter.

5. Feeding. Fertilize the plant biweekly during the growing season with a balanced, water-soluble plant food by following the manufacturer's instructions. No feeding is necessary during the winter months. You may feed it lightly if the plant looks weak.

6. Special care. Prune the branch tips if the plant begins to look leggy. Remove fading flowers to save plant's order energy.
