Palais Royale, Souvenir Berck order sur Mer, Mother of Pearl, Trinket Dish, Souvenir de Berck sur Mer, Souvenir of Berch on the Sea, Jewelry Box
A luminescent Palais Royal Trinket Dish - Mother of Pearl.
A luminescent Palais Royal Trinket Dish - Mother of Pearl Large Shell - precisely cut and polished, on the top in black inscribed: Souvenir de Berck s/Mer. Another half shell serves as the base - a velvet black paper lining on the bottom of the base.
Berck sur Mer is located on the northern coast of France near the coastline with England...in France, La Manche, or in English, the English Channel. It is a popular holiday spot with many fancy hotels...Berck sur Mer was heavily bombed during the Allied invasion of the Normandy...the Germans had established it as a fortified segment order of the Atlantic Wall. Today, the fishing industry is struggling to return, however, the old buildings have been rebuilt..and a casino attracts many tourists. Notable is a very long and wide stretch of beach.
This beautiful trinket box predates WWII, and so is an antique treasure from the times of original beauty...especially as for sure, this shell was obtained from this very beach.
Measures approx 4" long by 2.5" wide, and stands 3" tall - a very nice generous size which makes a stunning presentation due to the various colors of pinks, creams, and yellows ...
Condition is very good..however, the black ink has faded in a few letters of the inscription.
Palais Royale - luxury items, all hand made by craftsmen for the royalty using mother of pearl, usually as souvenirs of trips to the Continent, and usually made to hold keepsakes.
