Very unique and lovely Ames Pottery Co. Carillon Ware matte peacock blue vase. Made in Ames, Iowa, USA, sometime between 1935 and 1940. Ames Pottery was founded order by Howard Erwin in 1935 after he left Niloak Pottery Co., which is likely why this bears a similarity to Niloak pottery, including the vibrant peacock blue color. Pieces with this label always have the characteristic three-dot base on clay which fired to a light chestnut color.
Unique and rare, this is a beautiful piece of pottery that has aged well. No chips, cracks, nicks, rough spots, or any other defects. Slight water marks inside vase as well as a few small spots of rust (see photo - I cleaned with soap and water but nothing more). Measures about 6-1/2" high and about 5" by 5" across. Pottery itself is very thin (less than 1/4" thick) but sturdy.
This is an eye-catchingly uncommon and beautiful piece; this an opportunity for the serious collector to acquire a rare sample of Carillon Ware art pottery.
