Stunning Native American sterling silver Hopi brooch pin in fabulous vintage condition. The main theme of the piece is water and weather with storm clouds, lightning and wind symbols. Authentic Hopi jewellery is beautifully constructed from two layers of sterling silver that are soldered together after a design is cut out with a jewellers saw. once soldered together the textures and oxidisation are added order to make the design stand out. The texture is painstakingly added using a small punch and hammer. The top surface is buffed to super shiny or a matt satin finish. This particular Hopi brooch has been stamped with a Hopi Silvercraft Guild Sunface hallmark as well as the artists pictorial stamp of a leaf or feather. It is quite likely that this stamp can be attributed to Jacob Poleviyouma, Jr. whowas from the Hopi Sun clan in the Shunggopavi-Hotevilla Pueblo. He learnt his craft at the Hopi Silvercraft Cooperative Guild in Arizona. He produced jewellery from 1976 until his death in 1986. Fabulous piece to add to your collection.
