Wood Picture Frame, Tramp Art order Large Frame Featuring Chevrons, Great Antique Folk Art Salvage, Long Rectangular Art Frame
Very old primitive picture frame with unusual large long size and this is the first.
Very old primitive picture frame with unusual large, long size, and this is the first time I've seen chevron embellishments. This is a fine example of "tramp art", which is a form of folk art based on using simple forms and construction techniques and often found objects. It's an interesting contrast to the highly curated world of fine art, and it has a sense of practicality and humility which is very appealing. It's quite hard to date tramp art, but I think this piece is from the 1800s. The frame is hardwood, and the frame features chevrons, and there is another one in the center of the upper frame. Only about half of order the backer board was found with this. The frame measures about 26 3/4" by 14 1/8" by 3/4" deep, and the inside opening can accept art that is about 8 5/8" by 21". The frame is overall in fair to good condition, with the kind of wear and tear and dings and dents you would expect from something this old. Glass included, and the partial wood backer board. In fair condition.
