This gorgeous blue gem silica with dentrites is referred to as one of the “living stones” of Indonesia. Locally known as Palmea Bacan, its characteristics that make it a living stone is that it will become more translucent over time and some colors will change, while worn in jewelry. In this rare material, the blue tone will become more translucent and black will become green and eventually blue. One other characteristic is its order ability to absorb water and contain it for hours or even days. When soaked in water for 10 to 20 minutes, the cabochon will take on a more saturated blue tone and will be more translucent. This is all 100% natural. If you are interested in more information on this incredible material, I can provide links to a few articles that can be easily translated in your browser.
These cabs have been taken to a high polish on all surfaces, including the backs. The sides are beveled and the bottom edges are trimmed slightly to allow for easy setting for the silversmith. Perfect for a pair of earrings or as symmetrical stones in another design.
