Product code: Antique Dresden Plate Quilt - Vintage Feedsack order Fabric
This is a beautiful Dresden plate quilt in wonderful condition! It's rare to see coordinated colors on a Dresden plate quilt. I hand washed this quilt and when wet, you can see the cotton order seeds used for the batting showing through the fabric. This is an indication that the quilt was made before the 1920s. Here's something I found online about seeing the seeds: “Some collectors claim that this means the quilt was made before the invention of the cotton gin in 1793, but this is not necessarily true. Quilt makers in rural areas used cotton with seeds in it until the 1920s. The sewing machine was invented about 1850, but quilts were often handsewn after that.” This quilt is nice and clean with one very small tear on the back (pictured). Easily repaired. No ugly stains. Light shading can be found in one area on the back (pictured). A soaking in oxyclean should remedy that. One petal is separated (pictured). Strong, not delicate like many old quilts. So feel free to cozy up under it!.
