This listing features a collectible Vintage Decorated and Hand Colored by Delano Studios of Setauket, Long Island, New York horse tray featuring MAN-O-WAR, "There Was Only One", a Champion American Thoroughbred Racehorse widely considered the greatest racehorse of all time.

A little about this history of MAN-O-WAR:

Man-O-War was a beautiful chestnut horse who was often called by his nick name BIG RED. "Man-O-War" is the star of the tray shown in order a regal stance. His face shows the strength he exhibited as one of the world's most famous race horses. This wonderful horse is what horse legends are made of. Man-O-War, a Chestnut Horse, was foaled 3-29-17 by Fair Play Out of Mahubah. The breeder is the renowned August Belmont II. Man-O-War is regarded as one of the greatest sires of racing history. He sired 64 stakes winners. In his two year racing career this magnificent horse won 20 races out of 21 starts setting track and world records.

His racing days having ended with his defeat of Sir Barton, Man-O-War was retired to stud. He made news again, though, when his son War Admiral captured the Triple Crown in 1937 and when Seabiscuit, Man-O-War's grandson, became one of the turf's greatest money winners in 1935–40. A race between War Admiral and Seabiscuit in 1938 would become the second “race of the century.”

Man-O-War was born on March 29, 1917 and died November 1, 1947. He was inducted into the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame in 1957.

The outer rim of the tray/dish is trimmed in shiny gold. The background of the dish is a creamy white with MAN-O-WAR standing in the center. The name Man-O-War is just below his legs in black print. There is a signature on the bottom right side of the tray but it is illegible.

The tray/dish is in excellent condition for its age with no chips, crazing or cracks. There is no loss to the gold plating around the edges (please see the close up photos and judge for yourself the condition of the gold rim). There is a small indentation in the center of the bottom rim that is covered by the glaze, it is not a chip (see photos). There are a few scuffs on the bottom of the tray (see photos). There are a few tiny pin dot marks under the glaze that are not imperfections but are pointed out for listing accuracy. There are two white pin dots on the horse one on the head and one on the flank, pointed out for listing accuracy (see photos). The tray can be hung or laid flat as a decorative tray.

Please take the time to view the photos as they are an important part of my description.

The approximate measurement of the tray is 7 1/4" x 5 1/8".

The perfect gift for the horse lover or racing fan.
