Garnet is one of the most diverse groups of gemstones. Though the common red stones are the best known, garnet actually comes in every color of the rainbow, even blue. This stone is an example of hessonite, the rich orange variety of grossular garnet, cousin to green grossular (also known as tsavorite). Hessonite has been valued throughout history for its rich, pure orange to peachy orange hues, and order is popular both as a faceted stone and as cabochons or even for carving.
This crystal is particularly high quality, sourced from Jeffrey Quarry in Canada. Material from this particular mine is famed for its lighter orange color which leans towards peach, and for the clear brilliance of the crystals found there. This makes for a very bright and beautiful stone quite unlike hessonite from any other locale.
This stone is a great example, with a rich slightly peachy orange color, brilliant crystal faces and bright internal clarity.
