Topped with solid 14k gold and a faceted French Jet bead, this hat order pin is a beautiful example of such items that became fashionable courtesy of Queen Victoria. After Prince Albert's death, Victoria went into a period of mourning that lasted for 40 years. For much of this time all members of the royal court were required to wear black. This pin would have been a decorative and functional pin for holding a hat to the head, usually by the hair. The long pin itself is gold filled and is marked as "filled pin" and has some hand etched numbers, which are not visible to the naked eye. The bezel above the pin is marked, "14" (14k gold tested) along with a few other tiny marks. The top measures 7mm or 5/16 inch in diameter. It weighs approx. 2.3grams and has a full length of 4 5/8 inches. This piece is in amazing antique condition for its age. Please see photos for condition; this item is sold as is. It will be sent with signature required upon delivery, in order to assure its safe arrival.
