It's a very dreary, rainy day in Merlin, Oregon … the perfect day to list some wonderful Antique Books. Curl up during the Holidays and hold a book in your hands that was held over 100 years ago by someone who was VERY lucky if they owned a book and could read! Let's remember how much we have to be thankful for even after such a rough year as 2020. Personally, I'm very thankful for all the people I've met thru Etsy who have now become friends.
Not for reading but an INCREDIBLE SOURCE FOR REFERENCE TO ANTIQUE PRODUCTS SOLD IN AN 1908 GROCERY! Unlike the reprints of the old Sears Roebuck Catalogues, this is the original book used by the store owner to order Everything for his store. This is an invaluable way to research antiques!
Over 700 pages of items to fill the store from the "Alarm Till" on the first page to the Wooden Washer on the final page. Graniteware, oil lamps, cigars, carpet tacks, animal curry combs, washboards, paper writing tablets, coffee grinders, egg baskets, egg beaters, rat traps,
ammunition, kitchen grinders, croquet sets and everything you would find in an 1908 house or barn or business…all are pictured with great varieties of each and their prices! Each make of every item is pictured with a beautifully precise engraving. There are 1000's of engravings! At order the front, back and inside there are a very few photographs of products…placed to show the modern nature of this wholesaler, i.e., a book with photographs!
One of my favorite things is the way it was "bound" with leather that is still intact but now soft to the touch. The first page says to substitute this book for any past one and to "throw the past one away." (Oh, my heart aches.) I put "bound" in quotes because the pages have punched holes that were threaded on metal. I took one particular picture to show you that the pages want to come off the top metal spindle when you spread them wide apart.
This old leather "book" measures 7 1/4 in. X 5 in. X almost 2 inches thick.
My price for this "priceless treasure" is $ 85.00. I will cover the cost insured mailing myself.
I gladly refund any shipping charges that exceed the postage and money spent on boxes and packing materials. Purchases will be shipped within 3 working days. Of course, I will combine orders to create larger refunds so:
