Autumn Path, Original Oil, Country order Hike, Stoney but Beautiful, Rolling Horizon by Wilma Stoll, Painted in the 1950's and Sold by Simpsons
Eaton's and Simpson's stores were well known from the fairly early.
Eaton's and Simpson's stores were well known from the fairly early 20th Century....1918's up to the 1960's of engaging well known and even obscure artists to supply them with saleable paintings. Some of the group of 7 submitted works to Eatons and order Simpsons and some people were lucky enough to come home with Canadian masterpieces.
I've always purchased any painting with the Eaton's or Simpson's tag pasted onto the back frame just because the artwork would always be excellent and worth studying.
Wilma Stoll is one of these mid-century artists Simpson-Sears thought well enough of to offer her artistry to their customers.
What I love about this painting is that dancing, fiery Birch tree behind the stoney hill....this forest was not drawn but painted and it's very nice.
And the horizon, to me, appears to be joyful...surrounded by piles of rock and dense trees there is a definite lightness waiting up ahead.
