Decorative Glass Jars
A stunning example of the ornate Edwardian style with handcrafted silver dressing room jar, hallmarked from the Birmingham, England area when silversmiths were internationally known for their craftwork.
The age-old tradition of looking both fashionable and attractive for the time would have extended into the bedrooms and dressing areas of middle to upper-class families all around Europe and England. This example is of silver topped glass in a dressing order room jar that would have been used for everything from pins to powders and other ladies' delicates.
The Edwardian era was between 1901 and 1910, placing this particular item smack in the middle of the reign of King Edward VII of Britain leading up to the beginning of WWI. This is when the death of Queen Victoria (and the Victorian era) marked a new awakening in women's rights where an attractive appearance would have been equally important as a well-informed opinion and volunteer activity for charity.
This is an oval dressing room jar with the maker's marks of B'Ham - meaning Birmingham, England. In 1905, this area would have been full of high-quality silver smiths and metal workers.
