It is completely handmade starting with the base of the owl and each feather is individually handmade and hand applied and than; kiln fired, hand sanded and finally hand painted. The primary base color is micas (golden flakes in clay) slip or clay and the white and black colors are acrylic paint. These owls are very time consuming. They are very popular in New Mexico and considered a collectible. There are shops in Old Town Albuquerque, New Mexico that sell them year round. This family are all known for their pottery both female and males. Carol Seonia taught her daughters and her daughters taught their daughters and son and on and on.
