A beautiful stormy new perspective of the Mackinac Bridge. The longest suspended bridge in the U.S.A. Longer than the Golden Gate order, connects Mainland Michigan to its Upper Peninsula. Captured at The Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse Park in Mackinaw City. The dark clouds and choppy waves over this 5 mile gap where Lake Michigan & Lake Huron meet is perfectly captured while a wave is breaking onto a rock, strikingly leaving nature's rawness stuck in time.
A poem by Lee Skopp for this piece:
"Mackinac Splash"
Currents above and below
Two bodies of water separated by a seam
Sky, land, rocks, and wind
This climate wild and serene
Where Michigan flows into Huron
Both lands grasped together
By the sways of the Mackinac
In coastal views
The U.P. from Mainland
A people claimed yet self sustained
Wild and free, untouched and clean
Above Wisconsin but caught by Lansing
Five Miles to Bridge the gap
And well…
Michigan got greedy, more coastline than it needs
Calm and correct
Water keep within its stream
No wake in the waves
Yet rebelling each and every moment
Splashing into the sky
In the view of the old and Grand Mackinac.
