Product code: Extremely Rare order 302-Year-Old Book on English Civil War Published in Dublin
This is an extremely rare copy of "The Lord Clarendon's History of the Grand Rebellion Completed," a firsthand account by Edward Hyde, 1st Earl Clarendon (1609-1674), of the First English Civil War (1642-1646), who participated in the conflict as an ally of King Charles I. Clarendon's history of the war was much later praised by philosopher David Home for it's quality & style. This book is bound in tool-decorated leather & has an old spine binding library repair in black buckram. There is wear, scuffing, & chipping to the binding typical of a book of order this age. The title is handwritten on the spine in white ink & there is a faint former library call number. Published in Dublin in 1720. On the title page is the ink signature of a former owner, James A. Farrell, which may be the same as a large 19th-century landowner of that name at Magheramorne, Antrim. Text evenly toned, but tight. Measures 5.25" wide x 8.25" high x 0.75" thick. Weight about 12 oz. Great rare English history book.
