The holy Nandi is a humpback animal of Hindu mythology and is considered the mount (Vahana) and the faithful servant of the Hindu deity Shiva.
Nandi acts as a guardian and threshold keeper before every Shiva-Linga as well as from the temples of the god. In a few temples, on the other hand, he himself is the revered center. He is also the patron god of the four-legged animals and the four corners of the world.
The presentation:
Iconography often depicts him as a resting animal in front of a Shiva sanctuary.
Stelae depictions popular in the Indian Middle Ages show him carrying the "Holy Family", consisting of Shiva and his wife Parvati (sometimes with Ganesha) on his back.
