order This is an amazing large piece of end of day sewer tile tree stump pottery hand made in the mid west United States circa late 1800s- early 1900s. End of day pottery was an American folk art pottery made by tile workers in the Midwest, especially Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. Often these pieces were humorous sculptures of their bosses or co-workers, many were animal figures and like this piece, many were fashioned as planters to look like tree stumps. Some of the pieces had molds, some were hand created, some were glazed, others not. This piece does have an oat color glaze. The piece is in excellent condition, there are two spots on the inside (pictured) where there is some very minor crazing on the inside of the planter, no other issues. . Measures: 8 inches tall and 8.5 inches in diameter. Very heavy piece, nearly 8 lbs.
