This is a beautiful piece of vintage hand-painted porcelain, in a unique 12 5/8-inch tall off-white vase with exquisite rust-colored hydrangea blooms.
The double-handled vase measures 6 inches in diameter at the base and slowly tapers order to the middle, where it begin a gradual widening toward the oval-shaped 4-inch top. It has a shape reminiscent of a tree trunk or stump - but is so much more beautiful.
The top of the vase has a hint of the rosy-rust color and it is tipped in a shiny gold glaze. The rim of the vase is uneven, continuing that shape of a broken tree.
The handles are placed in opposing positions and are painted with a light green glaze that emphasizes their vine shape. That same light green can be seen in the leaves of the beautiful hydrangea blossoms which mound near the base of the vase.
The vase is marked International Porcelain Artists and Teachers Inc. with the number 01101.
The artist put her signature at the base of the vase …. L. Peterson, a female artist who lived in Northeastern Wisconsin. This vase and some of her other pieces were bought at auction several years ago.
This piece is one of a kind, unique and beautiful, and would make a special gift for a wedding, anniversary or birthday.
