Émile-Allain Séguy, more often abbreviated E. A. Séguy, was a French artist and designer known for his stunning ornamental patterns created during the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements of the 1920s. He is famous for his use of the printing technique kown as pochoir, a popular printmaking method in France in the 1910s-1920s. His masterful and vibrant images served as inspiration for decorative art, textiles, and fashion design. Pochoir is a labor-intensive process in which each layer of color would be applied by painting gouache or watercolor through a stencil. The results are unique, done by hand, and brilliant in their colors and detail. This particular print is from his series. Suggestions, circa 1920, and considered by many as the pinnacle of his career.
