I purchased these spectacular Vintage/Antique Glass Buttons in 1995 while visiting the Ercole Moretti Factory on the island of Murano, across the lagoon from Venice, Italy. Murano was where the studios of the Venetian glassblowers were relocated centuries ago by Venetian authorities to prevent the danger of fire to the city.
These buttons were manufactured prior to World War II (pre-1940) and then carded and stored in straw baskets on the warehouse shelves for over sixty years until I purchased them in 1995. The buttons were cast individually in metal molds by skilled Moretti craftswomen. The century old buttons are attached (sewn) to their original display cards. There are 24 buttons per card. They are sold by the card only. Each button will have either a shank (on order the back) or holes for attaching them to the fabric.
This is a unique opportunity to acquire top quality rare glass buttons for use in clothing construction, jewelry making or to include in a collection of glass art. Museum quality!
