Product code: Order Dancer 13"H
Ceramic of Chulucanas,
This ancient technique of "negative-painting" requires 2 firings, the first after painting the piece with an oxide.
This piece is then painted in order parts with a solution of clay and water and fired a second time with mango leaves, to blacken it with smoke. This produces a very unusual and subtle effect.
These pieces are made from local clay entirely by hand, beginning by punching the clay into shape and gradually building up the semi-hardened wall using a wooden pallet. The kilns are wood-burning, and sealed for the second firing.
“Each piece carries a symbol and each symbol tells a story…”
