Gas Reduction
4.25" x 4.25" x 3"
300 ml
Traditionally used as a vessel in the tea ceremony, but will still serve a great cup of coffee!
This handcrafted stoneware teabowl is handbuilt out of an iron bearing clay, and fired up to Cone 10
(about 2350F, 1287C). This clay is completely vitrified at this temperature and can be safely microwaved and washed in the dishwasher.
A combination of glaze, slips, salt and ash is layered on the surface of the pot in an attempt to bring the rich surface of traditional woodfired ceramics to the more controlled environment of the gas kiln.
The work I make is made using a mixture of Japanese and Korean ceramic traditions, and the surfaces I order create for this series of work is inspired by deserts, stars, dust and the infinite debris of the cosmos.
All pieces ship double boxed.
