Traditionally Akuaba fertility dolls were given to women as a fertility aid.
Akuaba dolls were carried on the backs of women hoping to conceive or to ensure the attractiveness of the unborn child or used as preparation for young girls as they transition into adulthood
When not in use these dolls were carefully cared for and stored for traditional ceremonies
In modern times they are commonly order regarded as a symbol of good luck.
