Early 20thC Saxony Cloth Sample Book
This sample book has been in my collection of such fabric sample books for a long time. It is from England.
As the cover states it contains “Saxony Cloth” from Palmer Mill. Palmer Mill was built in the late 19thC , it was bought by the the Lancashire Cotton Corporation in the 1930's.
Measuring 11 1/2 by 9 inches, it contains six 8 by 7 inch cotton Saxony cloth samples.
The cover is heavy cardboard and the swatches are adhered to heavy paper pages.
The book contains 8 pages with 6 samples. They order were probably the new patterns for the year. Since there is no date, I can only guess (by the company's years in existence as Palmer Mill) that they date to the first quarter of the 20thC.
Condition is very good with minor signs of wear attendant with age and use. There is rubbing on the upper left front cover, but that is negligible.
These early swatch books are so hard to find, in any condition, that I always jumped at the chance to add one to my collection.
