Original intaglio monoprint on white unsized cotton paper, printed in blue oil based ink.
I created this image using pieces of cardboard from a torn up shipping box, applying ink directly to the box fragments and printing them in layers on my monotype press.
This piece is part of an ongoing body of work that explores the visual potential of cardboard from many different perspectives. The cardboard box as pure form, cultural artifact, texture, building block, symbol, character, container (for color, space, light, motion). The form of the box is the origin point of an investigation, it anchors the process and provides a structure to improvise within. order I've been developing this work for about 14 years now, and I find that the more I work with this seemingly boring material, the more interesting it becomes.
