Andy Warhol (original name Andrew Warhol, August 6, 1928 Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - February 22, 1987 New York, New York, USA) was an American painter, graphic artist, filmmaker, and leader of the American pop art movement. He started his career as an illustrator of promotional articles. Later he became known all over the world as a painter, director of avant-garde films and manager of the rock band The Velvet Underground. He has been featured in several biographical and documentary films about him. In 1991, a museum dedicated to his work was opened in Medzilaborce near his parents' hometown.
