This necklace has rich rust and golden brown, with black tones running throughout. The centerpiece is composed of a smaller Tiger's eye oval cabochon, paired with a large oval of Banded Iron jasper. Tiger's eye is a semiprecious variety of quartz with a silky, or chatoyant, luster, and is formed by replacement of crocidolite with chalcedony. Common sources of Tiger's eye include Australia, Burma, India, South Africa, USA, Brazil, Canada, China, and Spain. The Banded Iron jasper is found in a 2 billion year old Banded Iron Formation from Wyoming, sometimes called Genesis jasper. It is composed of Magnetite, Hematite, and jasper. I order set both cabochons with 24 gauge sterling silver sheet backing, both surrounded with a smooth sterling bezel. The hanger is a curved sterling tube, which Sarah ran the beads of the strand through. The beads repeat the yellow, golden browns, and black of the centerpiece. These beads include carved Tiger's eye frogs, golden Tiger's eye chips, hematite, cultured pearls, jasper, and Czech glass. The silver toned beads include pewter, some sterling spacer beads, and large "nickel silver" turtles. The pewter clasp is a hook and eye style. This piece is 20 inches long, and the centerpiece is 2 inches long, by 1 3/4 inches wide. This necklace will go well with both casual and more formal wear.
