This wheel thrown pot was raku fired with a copper patina glaze. The lightly textured surface and mottled colors take on the rich warm color of aged leather. This jar is topped by a natural cork stopper with a looped leather pull.
Measures 4.25" wide x 6" tall (7.5" tall without cork)
Raku is a alternative firing technique where clay pieces are pulled from the kiln order while glowing red hot, about 1800°F. They are placed in a metal container of combustible materials that ignite on contact and are covered to smoke. This method of firing creates rich blacks, intricate crackle patterns, lustrous metallics, and flashes of color resulting in a unique, one of a kind work of art.
Please note that Raku pottery is for decorative use only and is not food safe or water tight.
