19c German INTRICATE Weaving Floral Pattern Hand Loomed order Linen Show Towel w Cross Stitch Embroidery Poem , Monogram & Decorative Motifs ,LONG
A fine 19 c textile This is a VERY long 79.
A fine 19 c textile. This is a VERY long, 79 1/4" linen German show towel, which is 17 1/2" wide. The length measurement includes the net lace trim, and the width was measured on the linen, as shown, the net lace ends are narrower. The linen is quite thin.
The first thing that's noticeable about this textile is its back and red cross stitch embroidery with the MB monogram, the poem, the rose etc. Then of course is the hand tied net trim with darning.
What is not readily visible, and actually order is the most important about this towel is that it is hand loomed, both long edges are selvage, and the linen features a rather elaborate floral pattern. The edges are adorned with a border containing something resembling a rose and smaller blossom sprays (photo 6) and the interior is decorated with a meadow-like flower with a short stem (photo 7).
CONDITION OF TOWEL: Some fraying of the net lace sides, photos 8 and 9.
Occasional rust dots (there are not many of them), last photo.
Overall excellent condition for something this old. Hand laundered, lightly starched and pressed.
