This unusual vintage 6" diameter lidded porcelain powder jar was made in Italy and has molded Neoclassical decoration on the exterior. The lid is decorated with an outdoor scene featuring four figures dressed in long, draped garments. The group has been depicted holding hands while dancing in a circle. The edge of the lid is bordered with roses and leaves along with ribbon tied in four large bows while the sides are finished in two bands of gilt paint. The exterior of the base also has molded decoration consisting of cherubs frolicking together amongst trees and vegetation. The base is edged with a thin gilt line.
The dresser box is in very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks. It should be noted that there are some production related anomalies present including irregularities in the glaze application and molded decoration which do not detract from the appearance of the piece and are mentioned for accuracy. The box is 6" in diameter and stands 2" tall. The underside is not glazed and bears a order Capodimonte mark consisting of a cobalt blue letter "N" beneath a crown. The box weighs in at 1lb 9oz.
This charming box displays beautifully and would be a great addition to a collection of antique dresser jars/powder boxes. The piece can be used as intended or could be used to store a variety of other items including jewelry and other sundry items. A pretty and practical vintage find!
